About Maria Montessori
Born in 1870, Maria Montessori was among Italy’s first female physicians. Her clinical work with children led her to open the first Casa dei Bambini in 1907 and to develop a system based on observation, specially designed materials, freedom within limits, mixed-age classrooms and purposeful activity.

- What is documented
- The passage is documented in Maria Montessori’s From Childhood to Adolescence (p. 82) and is cited in the AMI archive.
